Case Study:
Tennisverband Mittelrhein e.V.

The Tennis Association of Middle Rhine e.V. has been committed to the organization, maintenance, and promotion of tennis since 1947 and aims to provide its 80,000 members with an informative and user-friendly website.

The challenge: An informative & easy-to-understand website with a complex interface

Comprising the districts of Aachen-Dürenberg-Heinsberg, Cologne/Leverkusen, Left-Rhine, and Right-Rhine, the Tennisverband Mittelrhein e.V. is one of 17 regional associations in Germany. Their club members seek easy access to individual clubs, match schedules, entry lists, results, tables, and match reports online. To meet this demand, we have developed a comprehensive and user-friendly corporate website for the TVM.

"SEDA.digital has developed a new homepage for our tennis state association, which comprises 360 clubs and 80,000 members. It displays our entire range of services. We've also developed an API interface with the National German Tennis Database for our comprehensive and intricate tennis scheduling. Consequently, the display of tournament schedules has become significantly more user-friendly and clear for our officials, players, and interested parties. The project was executed professionally and with high quality by SEDA.digital. We continue to enjoy collaborating with their team on updates and new developments," explains Managing Director Sebastian Müller.

Concept phase and technical implementation of the API

During the conceptualization phase, we first developed the basics for all web applications. The wireframes and visual design were created by our colleagues at Buntebrause. Using online design software, we could view and incorporate change requests in real-time into the development concept. Based on this foundation, we proceeded with the technical implementation. In close coordination and regular consultation with Nu, a software company specializing in a wide range of sports, we implemented the initial programming interfaces (APIs).

TVM Screendesigns

Bringing the screen design to life

Next, we moved on to frontend development. Following SEDA Frontend "Best Practices," we focused on performance, search engine optimization, and the overall look of the website. With meticulous attention to detail, we brought the web design to life with pixel-perfect precision. After creating and testing the HTML prototype, complete with all desired features and design elements, we ensured that the website works flawlessly on all screen sizes.

A standout feature of the project is the personalized player dashboard. Players can log in to their profiles, view their overall standings and specific game performance, and compare their results with others.

Optimal server performance using the MODX Cache Manager

With 80,000 members, the TVM website experiences high traffic, especially on competition days. To ensure smooth server performance, we optimized all match data in the MODX content management system. Files are stored in a separate cache partition, minimizing unnecessary data transfers and server requests, and reducing access times.

4 separate Logins for 4 separate regions

Each of the four TVM regions is autonomous and wants to manage its website content independently. To accommodate this, we integrated four distinct areas on the website, accessible only to admins of the respective districts.

Additionally, TVM required two separate admin levels for its editors. With MODX, we easily created two content admin user groups, each with its own set of permissions.

Launch and further development

After the website went live, the TVM editors received a brief introduction to MODX, enabling them to make changes independently in the future. Since then, we have maintained the website and continue to develop new features and functions in collaboration with the responsible teams.
